The Raft Leicester
Supporting care-experienced children and young people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
our story
Hello, we are a supportive community of Leicestershire-based parents and carers dedicated to empowering local care-experienced* children and their families to ‘navigate life together’.
We know what it’s like to feel like you’re struggling to keep your head above water as a foster carer, kinship carer or adoptive parent.
At The Raft, our mission is to create connection, understanding and shared strength. We believe that when parents, carers and professionals support one another through the ongoing impact of trauma and care experience, families can grow stronger, more resilient and more connected.

GET INVOLVED AT THE RAFT
The Raft has a Christian ethos and all our trustees
have a Christian faith. We are also all deeply committed to pulling together with volunteers and partner agencies from any or no faith background to strengthen the lives of care-experienced families.
If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!
What Does 'Care-Experienced mean?
We support any child which has spent time:
- living with foster carers under local authority care
- in residential care (e.g. a children’s home)
- being looked after at home under a supervision order, or
- in kinship care with relatives or friends, either officially (e.g. a special guardianship order) or informally without local authority support.
Care-experienced children have been through adverse childhood experiences and trauma, and as a result require additional support to help them to thrive.
